Avra Valley ITT

Natural Grocers Cycling is proud to host for the first time the Avra Valley ITT. The time trial will be held on West Avra Valley Rd starting just west of the Marana Regional Airport. We will have parking and staging at the dirt parking lot in front of the airport. The first rider off at 7:00 a.m. All races are 30K in all categories. For increased rider safety, we will have police officers present on. One at the start/finish, and the other at the turn around point.

We do encourage riders to bring spectators or volunteers as they are needed to put these races on.

While the course has low vehicular traffic, racers must still stay to the right side of the road except when passing! There will be race officials on the course to enforce this rule! Also, keep your focus on the road for potential hazards.

ITT ELIGIBILITY: All racers must race in their own category. No racing up or down categories. Racers possessing a

1-day, out-of-state, or international license can still race.

START TIME: First Start will be at 7:00a.m. Start times will be posted on race website https://www.naturalgrocerscycling.com by 9:00 p.m. Friday, September 12th. Your start time will also be written on your bib number.

REGISTRATION: Registration will only be online at: https://www.bikereg.com/avra-valley-itt

where you can also purchase your 1-day license; no day-of registration or 1-day licenses will be sold at the event. You must sign your waiver release online when you register for the race. We will not have your waiver to sign at the event. BikeReg will register you with an expired license. This means you either need to purchase an Annual license or purchase a one day license when you register.

PACKET PICK UP:

Packet pick-up will start no earlier than 6:30 AM (close at 7:30) and will be as you drive into the dirt parking lot/warm-up area.

PARKING/WARM-UP/STAGING:

Dirt parking lot in front of the Marana Regional Airport. Recommend you bring your trainers for a good warm- up! You may warm up on West Avra Valley Rd between the start line and Sandario Rd. East of Sandario Rd. you will encounter more traffic so trainers are preferred, and caution is advised. Please remain in your car and follow the traffic cues to pick up your bib (it will have your start time marked on it). Once you have your bib proceed to park and warm-up. We will have extra porta-potties at the parking area and close to the start. Please obey parking attendants.

BIB # PLACEMENT:

Proper placement of the bib # is necessary so our officials can accurately read your number and record your time when you cross the finish line. The photos below show the proper placement for kneelers/upright (right back) and recumbents (right leg).

Please remember, if you use glue to attach your number, you should use at least two pins on the leading edge. We have seen too many glued on numbers flapping in the wind covering the number. If the officials can’t see your number, you may not be scored.

STARTING LINE: Manpower permitting, we will have holders. If not, all starts will be foot down.

TIME TRIAL COURSE:

The Time Trial will be held west of Marana Regional Airport. This is a relatively flat course, with a gradual ascent near the turn around point and a decent to finish. At the start, you will head West on Avra Valley Rd at the indicated point execute a 180-degree turn and return to the finish. There will be no warming up on the course!!! Please stay as far right as possible, the course is not closed to traffic!!!

• Finishing riders should exit the finish area after they are done racing.
• Riders should discard all refuse in trash receptacles placed at the start line or bib pick-up

RACE RESULTS & AWARDS: We will compile and post the race results by Monday on the Natural Grocers web page. If all goes well, we can announce some results at the event. Since this is not a championship event, we will not be issuing metals. However, we will award the winners of any Senior Category race with two or more entrants a free admission to the State Championship ITT on Sept. 28. Look for your notification email from the race director and check https://www.naturalgrocerscycling.com

Remember, we are also hosting the Arizona State Individual TT on September 28, at the Park Link course from last year.

DIRECTIONS: From Phoenix: Take I-10 E and Exit #242 Avra Valley, turn right onto West Avra Valley Rd for 5.3 miles, the Marana Airport is on the right. (Google Maps will tell you to get off on exit 236 and use Sandario and Sanders Rd to reach the airport, however this will put you on the racecourse. If you are planning on arriving after 7:00am start please use exit 242)

From Tucson: Take I-10 W and Exit #242 Avra Valley, turn left onto West Avra Valley Rd, and continue 5.3 miles, the Marana Airport is on the right.
